This towering palm welcomes guests to Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town, recently voted #1 hotel in Africa by readers of Condé Nast Traveler.
When Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel was but a sapling, 57 Canary Island palms were planted along a pristine new driveway to welcome the then Prince of Wales in 1925. Today, the grown-up avenue is an iconic feature of the Cape Town hotel and its luxuriant garden estate.
The image above, captured as part of a company-wide photo competition to depict the beautiful world of Belmond, was shortlisted from a splendid selection submitted by Belmond staff. It was taken by the hotel’s Marketing Manager, Louise Pfeiffer, who declares: "The palm trees are a grand entrance into our beautiful world".
